About this car

This 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale is one of a claimed 1,399 examples produced between 1963 and 1965. Chassis 380157 is believed to have undergone paint and interior work in Italy before being brought to the US under previous ownership. Work is noted to have involved installing a rebuilt 1.8L twin-cam inline-four, retrofitting four-wheel disc brakes, fitting an Alfaholics limited-slip differential, repainting the Bertone bodywork, and refreshing the interior. Finished in white, the car features a louvered hood, a plexiglass wind deflector, and push-button doors and rides on 15″ Fergat-style steel wheels coupled with Koni shocks and Ward & Dean springs at all four corners. Inside, low-back front bucket seats upholstered in gray cloth with blue vinyl sides are accompanied by Veglia instrumentation and an IPRA cabin heater. The engine is fitted with dual Weber carburetors, while shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission.

The Sprint Speciale featured styling by Bertone’s Franco Scaglione, who drew inspiration from his earlier Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica prototype designs. The cars featured a louvered hood fitted with a plexiglass wind deflector as well as a Kamm-style tail out back. A successor to the Tipo 101.20 Giulietta SS, the Tipo 101.21 Giulia SS debuted at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show with similar styling and an increased displacement of 1.6 liters.

This example was repainted white at some point under previous ownership in Italy. Giulia SS badging adorns the fenders and tail panel, and further details include Carello headlamps, push-button doors, and chrome bumpers.

The 15″ Fergat-style steel wheels wear polished Alfa Romeo–branded hubcaps and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Disc brakes and a dual-circuit master cylinder were retrofitted as part of the 2007 to 2009 refurbishment. The removed drum brake components are included in the sale.

The low-back front bucket seats are upholstered in gray cloth with blue piping and vinyl sides. Color-coordinated blue trim covers the door panels as well as the rear bulkhead and parcel shelf, while the floors are lined with gray carpets. Further appointments include an IPRA cabin heater, a dash-mounted mirror, and pop-out rear quarter windows.
