1953 Alfa Romeo 1900C Sprint Coupe by Touring 5-Speed offered at online auction by Repo Vehicle Holdings. Bank-sourced car with a clear title, VIN history report, no buyer fees and a 30-day return window. Open bidding with the full bid history visible.
This 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900C Sprint Coupe is a Tipo II Touring-bodied example that is noted to have been initially delivered in Italy and spent time in the Netherlands before being imported to the US. Chassis 01474 was refurbished under previous ownership with work involving a color change to teal and a refresh of the interior in red and gray leather. Power is supplied by a replacement 1.9-liter Tipo 1308 inline-four that has been fitted with an Abarth dual Weber carburetor kit, while shifting is via a five-speed manual transmission. The car rides on 16″ Borrani wire wheels and is further equipped with aluminum drum brakes, independent front suspension, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and latch-and-link lap belts.
The 1900 was introduced in 1950 as Alfa Romeo’s first model with unitary construction and was supplied to independent coachbuilders in long and short chassis forms. Built on the short-wheelbase Corto platform, the Touring-bodied Sprint and Super Sprint coupes feature the Milan coachbuilder’s Superleggera construction technique incorporating alloy panels over a steel spaceframe. The first series comprised Tipo I and Tipo II variants, with the latter group featuring shorter doors that stop at the rocker panels and raised door handles in lieu of the recessed handles found on the Tipo I.
Previously finished in white, this Tipo II example was repainted in teal during a refurbishment completed under prior ownership. The scudetto center grille is flanked by front inlet “eyebrows,” and further exterior details include Carello headlamps as well as Carrozzeria Touring and Superleggera badging. The bumpers have been removed and are included in the sale.
Borrani 16″ wire-spoke alloy wheels are secured via two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires, as is a matching spare wheel stored in the trunk compartment. Braking is via four-wheel aluminum drums with finned units up front.
