1971 Mercedesbenz · Lender-owned, lien released
1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL offered at online auction by Repo Vehicle Holdings. Bank-sourced car with a clear title, VIN history report, no buyer fees and a 30-day return window. Open bidding with the full bid history visible.
Over $60k of refurbishments and work completed between 2020 and 2022 included stripping the exterior, a repaint in the factory shade of white, refreshing the interior, overhauling the cylinder head and differential, rebuilding the fuel injection pump, and replacing assorted gaskets, weather seals, and assorted ignition, suspension, and braking components. Powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, the car is equipped with a replacement black convertible top, a removable hardtop, power steering, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, and air conditioning.
The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was finished in White (050) from the factory, and it was stripped before it was repainted in 2020. A replacement black fabric soft top and weather seals were installed at that time. Additional details include a removable hardtop, a driver-side mirror, a cowl-mounted antenna, and US-specification headlights. Close-up photos of paint touch-ups and imperfections on the front end are viewable in the gallery, along with rust bubbles behind the right rear wheel and along the edge of the removable hardtop.
The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with 195/75 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWPII tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. An idler arm repair kit was installed in 2021, along with a replacement steering damper, center drag link, tie rod assemblies, and brake master cylinder.
Interior refurbishments in 2021 consisted of overhauling the driver’s seat with replacement foams and headrest upholstery, along with replacing the wood interior trim, carpets, and headliner for the removable hardtop. Interior appointments include red MB-Tex upholstery with contrasting piping, white dashboard trim, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, a heater, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and an under-dash air conditioning system.
