About this car

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette is one of 216 examples manufactured with the L88 package during three years of production and is one of 116 built for the 1969 model year. It was specified in Monza Red over black upholstery and configured as a convertible with a black soft top. The car was subsequently honored with a Duntov Mark of Excellence Award, multiple NCRS Top Flight awards, and Bloomington Gold certifications. Factory-specified equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission paired with a Positraction differential as well as power disc brakes, the J56 heavy-duty brake package, and the F41 heavy-duty suspension package.

Introduced in 1967, RPO L88 was developed under the direction of Zora Duntov as a means to offer a competition-oriented variant of the Corvette without running afoul of the corporate racing ban imposed by GM in the early 1960s. The package omitted various comfort options and was presented with an understated power rating and designation of the engine for “off-road” use.

Finished from the factory in Monza Red, the car was repainted during the refurbishment work. A black soft top complements the paintwork, and additional details include Stingray fender badging, an L88-specific domed hood, and dual exhaust outlets.

The L88 option required the addition of the F41 Suspension Package, which added a seven-leaf rear spring, higher-rate front coil springs, special shock absorbers, and a rear sway bar. Also required was the J56 heavy-duty brake package, which added revised calipers and brake components. The 15″ Rally wheels wear stainless-steel trim rings and center caps and are mounted with Goodyear-branded tires.

Black vinyl covers the bucket seats, which were optioned with headrests. Appointments include a heater, an analog clock, and lap belts. The L88 package precluded the selection of air conditioning, power steering, or a radio. A decal affixed to the console warns that 103 octane fuel must be used.
